TL;DR - If you stop playing games, it gives you SO MUCH more time to draw.
Although it isn't exactly the start of the year, I thought I'd write about how it's been thus far and how I hope the year will go from here on out. After almost an entire year of no artistic improvement I questioned why I wasn't improving. The main reason was that, I probably wasn't drawing enough. The year before, in 2012, I filled two sketchbooks and was actually able to draw things far more complex than I could have ever thought to draw at the start of the year. Last year, in 2013, I filled not even one. Sadly, this is probably due to my involvement with my friends, games, school, and then work. Actually, when school actually kicked in this semester, I changed my schedule so I ended up not seeing any of my friends during the day. This meant that in my break time, I don't have anyone to talk to so I ended up drawing. And actually, the biggest reason that I started drawing again so much is because I have finally kicked my bad habit of playing League of Legends in all of my free time. I realized (After I stopped playing) that I was spending literally a third of my day, every day, playing league, either getting angry or making other people angry.
Once I got off League, hard as it was, I learned that I actually had so much time that I didn't know what to do with it. Now, I'm getting a better night's rest and doing more of what makes me happy. Other things I've done is start following much more art blogs on tumblr, and joining more groups here on deviant art. I'm trying to be more active between the two, and trying even to post things on youtube. Although I wanted to do drawing tutorial videos where I speak like 'SYCRA' or 'KNKL' I decided that I would do the speed paint thing for now.
Apart from those things, I'm actually taking a writing class that is helping me to understand character development and that kind of thing more. I'm also currently taking a basic fundamentals of art class, where we go over the very basics of art, and I've strengthened my core even more which is great.
TL;DR - If you stop playing games, it gives you SO MUCH more time to draw.

Hopefully, I'll be making the right decision in going to art school soon. There've been so many comics circulating around tumblr about following your dreams, never giving up, and loving yourself. I think that most of them can be found in my advice tag
here.
